Senkoji Temple in Hida Province was founded 1,600 years ago during the reign of Emperor Nintoku, as a place of prayer for ancient beliefs by a powerful Hida family called Ryomensukuna.
It was opened as a place of prayer for the ancient faith, and was built as a Buddhist temple by Prince Shinnyo (one of the ten great disciples of Kobo Daishi) about 1,200 years ago.
