The inn is surrounded by trees by Myojin Pond on the right bank of the Azusa River, a walking trail from Kamikochi.
Hidaya Ryokan, which had been operating in front of Matsumoto Station since 1902 and also served as a mountain climbing information center, moved to its current location in 1953 and began operating under its current name.
The restaurant's cuisine, which focuses on local ingredients such as seasonal vegetables and wild plants, is very popular, as is the burnt rice cooked in the kamado.
